Castaway (1971) Review

Sea Devils II: Trip To Hawaii

Castaway is a hilarious one-off that shows how much Terrance Dicks underestimated the Earth format.

PLOT

Whilst on a holiday cruise, Dr. Who and the Brigadier are harassed by a pirate named Frederic Simba, who can manipulate the will of sea creatures around him with his music...

ANALYSIS

I'm not even sure what to say here. The Doctor and the Brig with shades on a private yacht fighting giant squids. It kinda speaks for itself. It's fun, goofy and very charming, all that a comic is supposed to do. I'm beginning to really enjoy the Doctor Who comicverse. I don't even have to get strung up about continuity here, because there is none!

NOTES

*Very interesting to see the Third Doctor use his predecessor's recorder. I wonder if they expected Pertwee to use it at some point(given that he was still known as a comedian, and was musically gifted).

*As a Lion King fan, I am endlessly amused by the villain's name.

*Who knew the Brigadier had a private yacht?? Wonder why he didn't retire on that instead of in that dreadful school from Mawdryn Undead.

*The Brig looks a lot more portly in this than he was at the time. Doctor Who comics, they predict the futuuuure!!

BEST QUOTE

"It's no use calling for your sea creatures to help you... they have a new master!" - The Brig's just trolling him, isn't he?

CONCLUSION

LOL.
