DOC-METER
A particularly fascinating incarnation, whose fondness for fun and games and tripping up his enemies led to an evolution into an expert player in the universal gameboard. This Doctor is firmly in the "ends justify the means" camp, which leads to difficulties with his companions. And story after story of great drama.

SCREWDRIVER
None in his original run. In The TV Movie, he has a silver metal tube with a red bullet-shaped thing enclosed in a metal circle on top.
COSTUME
Initially, a beige suit jacket, plaid trousers(again! What's the Doctor's fetish for plaid trousers?), a paisley woollen scarf and tie, white shirt and Panama hat. This costume would remain essentially the same throughout the run, with minor changes here and there(most notably, the suit became dark brown in season 26 and the scarves became generally silk rather than woollen)

OVERALL ERA
An explosion of creativity. Contrary to popular opinion of the Cartmel Masterplan, there really wasn't a Masterplan, more of a vague idea to try and make the show more interesting by placing its lead character back into shadows. It's proof of the writers' renewed enthusiasm(Cartmel tended to hire passionate fans of the show) that this smoke and mirrors approach worked as well as it did and that so much of what they threw at the wall actually stuck.
The goldmine of a chemistry between Sylvester McCoy and Sophie Aldred, plus Cartmel's excellent work ensured that the character of Ace wouldn't devolve into as screamer, but rather evolve as a person through her experiences. The changes in the Doctor necessitated changes in her as well and the two became realistic, constantly expanding characters. Lightning was well and truly struck and the result was a legendary period for the show even as it was being abandoned by the BBC.
